My Journey as an Adult & Children’s Counsellor
Working in mental health has never been just a profession for me — it is a calling rooted in compassion, curiosity, and a deep belief in people’s capacity to heal. I’ve dedicated myself to supporting both adults and children through life’s challenges, transitions, and emotional wounds. My approach is grounded in person‑centred values: empathy, authenticity, and a genuine respect for each individual’s unique story.
A Dual Specialism: Counselling for Adults and Children
Being qualified in both adult and children’s counselling allows me to meet clients exactly where they are in life.
For adults, therapy often becomes a space to untangle long‑held patterns, navigate stress, or process trauma.
For children, it’s about creating safety, connection, and understanding through developmentally appropriate approaches that honour their world.
This dual perspective enriches my work. It helps me see the whole picture — the inner child within adults, and the emerging adult within children.
EMDR Training: Healing Trauma with Evidence‑Based Care
Trauma can shape how we think, feel, and respond long after the event has passed. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is one of the most powerful tools we have for helping the brain heal. I completed my EMDR training for adults with Alexandra Richman in London, whose expertise and depth of knowledge strengthened my confidence in trauma‑informed practice.
Wanting to extend this support to younger clients, I went on to train in Children’s EMDR at Purple House, a space known for its warmth, creativity, and child‑centred approach. My training has allowed me to offer EMDR safely and effectively across ages — adapting the process so it feels empowering, gentle, and attuned to each client’s needs.
Person‑Centred at the Core
No matter the technique, my foundation is always person‑centred therapy. Whether I’m supporting a child through anxiety, an adult processing trauma, or a family navigating change, I bring warmth, presence, and a deep respect for the human experience.
Why I Do This Work
Every day, I witness courage — in the parent seeking help for their child, in the adult facing long‑buried pain, in the young person trying to understand their emotions. Being part of someone’s healing journey is a privilege I never take lightly.
My mission is simple:
To create a safe, compassionate space where people of all ages can heal, grow, and reconnect with themselves.
The Importance of Mental Health Awareness
Mental health awareness is crucial in today’s society. Many people still carry the stigma associated with seeking help. It is essential to break down these barriers. By fostering open conversations about mental health, we can encourage individuals to seek the support they need.
The Role of Therapy in Mental Health
Therapy plays a vital role in mental health. It provides a safe space for individuals to explore their thoughts and feelings. Through therapy, clients can gain insights into their behaviours and develop coping strategies. This process is especially important for children and young people, who may struggle to articulate their emotions.
Building Resilience in Children
Children face unique challenges in today’s world. From academic pressures to social media influences, their mental health can be significantly impacted. Therapy can help children build resilience. It equips them with tools to manage stress and navigate difficult situations.
Supporting Families
Therapy is not just for individuals; it can also benefit families. Family therapy can improve communication and strengthen relationships. It provides a platform for family members to express their feelings and work through conflicts together.
The Future of Therapy
As mental health awareness grows, the future of therapy looks promising. More people are recognising the importance of mental well-being. This shift will lead to increased demand for qualified therapists. It is essential for practitioners to continue their education and stay updated on the latest therapeutic techniques.
